Hot, spicy and sweet, this wonderful fall recipe is a guaranteed favorite for kids, and is great with mashed potatoes and buttered green beans.
Ingredients
- 4 (3/4 inch) thick pork chops
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tart apples - peeled, seeded and sliced
- 3 tablespoons pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175 degrees F (80 degrees C). Place a medium dish in the oven to warm it up.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly brush the chops with oil and place in a hot pan. Cook, 5 to 6 minutes, turning occasionally or until done. Transfer to the hot dish and keep warm in the preheated oven.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, salt and pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the butter to the pan and stir in the brown sugar and apple mixture. Cover and cook until apples are tender. Remove the apples with a slotted spoon and arrange on the chops. Keep warm in the preheated oven.
- Continue cooking the uncovered sauce in the pan until it thickens slightly. Pour the sauce over the apples and chops. Sprinkle with pecans.
