French Onion Beef Casserole Bake

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 cups French bread, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, and then transfer to a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions until caramelized and tender, and then sprinkle the thyme, salt, and black pepper over the top of the onions.
  3. Add the onions to the baking dish on top of the ground beef.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together beef broth, cornstarch, and water, and pour over the beef and onion mixture in the baking dish.
  5. Top the mixture with cubed French bread, and then sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese over the top.
  6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Note: You can also substitute the Gruyere cheese with Swiss or mozzarella cheese. This recipe can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave for a quick and easy meal.
