- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- 4 cups French bread, cut into cubes
- 2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned, and then transfer to a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In the same skillet, sauté the sliced onions until caramelized and tender, and then sprinkle the thyme, salt, and black pepper over the top of the onions.
- Add the onions to the baking dish on top of the ground beef.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together beef broth, cornstarch, and water, and pour over the beef and onion mixture in the baking dish.
- Top the mixture with cubed French bread, and then sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese over the top.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
